Follow the instructions below to prevent your children
from viewing websites with questionable content.
Step 1: Open Internet Explorer and on the toolbar, click Tools as shown in Fig. 1
Step 2: Click on Internet Options as shown in Fig. 2
Step 3: Click on Content as shown in Fig. 3
Step 4: Under Content Advisor, click Enable as shown in Fig. 4
Step 5: Click on each category and adjust the slider for each as shown in Fig. 5
Step 6: Click on the General Tab at the top as shown in Fig. 6.
Under User Options, check the box: "Supervisor can type a password to allow users to view restricted content."
Then under Supervisor Password, click Create Password.
Step 7: Create your password and then type the exact same password in the "Confirm Password" field.
In the "Hint" field, type in something that will remind you of your password in case you forget what it is. Then click OK and you're done.
Although this might not prevent 100% of the sites you're trying to block, it will block most,
so you rest easy knowing your children are surfing the net without being exposed to questionable content.
See Fig. 7
Firefox, doesn't have built-in content blocking capabilities at the moment, but you can install an extension
called ProCon, that will block sites that you don't want your children to view.
Click the install link, as shown in Fig. 1. It will install, and start working the next time you open Firefox
You can download it here:
Also download and install these 2 updates:
When you click on each update link, you'll be asked to "open" or "save to disk".
Click save to disk, then click ok.
See Fig. 2
Remember where you save it on your hard drive. Then go to File. See Fig. 3
Open File, See Fig. 4
and navigate to where you saved the files. Install update 1 first and then update 2. See Fig. 5
Then close Firefox and reopen. Now you're ready to adjust the settings in Procon. Go to Tools,
See Fig. 6
Then to Procon, Preferences. See Fig. 7
(short cut: Ctrl + F1 or Alt + F1)
In the Procon prefernces box, under General settings, check:
See Fig. 8
- Enable Filter
- Enable Word Censuring
- Enable White List
- Enable Right Click Blocking
- Enable Right Click Adding To Word Filter
- Enable Right Click Adding To White List.
Under the Edit Filter tab, you can add words, websites and phrases that will be blocked. See Fig 9.
In the Edit Word section, you can add or delete words. See Fig. 10
In the WhiteList section you can add websites that are ok for your children to view. See Fig. 11
After your finished, click OK, See Fig. 12
Unfortunately, Procon doesn't have Password capabilities at the moment.
That will probably be in the next update. Check back here or on the
Procon page for future updates.
